Okay so I knew this was going to be a good book, but it really took me by surprise. I absolutely loved this book. I love reading paranormal books, but this was outside of the box, and that is why I think I loved it so much.

If you are looking for vampires, werewolves, fairies, and all of the other regular paranormal characters, your are in the wrong place. But, if you are ready for a book that will sweep you up and take you on a ride, you are in the right place. Elemental Enchanters are kind of like witches in a way, but so much better.

Ava is a water enchanter. She can breathe under water, and so many other cool things. Her boyfriend Thomas is a fire enchanter. The other members in her coven all are powerful enchanters. Ava is having problems with Thomas because she likes a human by the name of Peter. Enchanters are supposed to protect humans, not date them.

I really liked Peter. Through out the book he knew he wanted Ava, and he did everything he could to be with her. Ava tried her hardest to push Peter away, but he kept hanging on. I really enjoyed watching Peter and Ava's relationship grow.

This book had me on my toes from the beginning to the end. I couldn't put this book down. When I was finished, I had to read the next one. I devoured this book within a couple of hours, and I loved every bit of it. I love this world that Carrigan has created. I was rooting for Ava and Peter the entire time. But, I felt bad for Thomas as well.

I loved getting to know all of the other characters in this book. Their stories are just as important as Ava's, and I can't wait to return to this awesome world. I highly recommend this book to paranormal fans out there. I really hope you guys will like this book as much as I did. Two thumbs up Carrigan for this great book!

So, before starting Under A Blood Moon, I figured that yes, it was going to be a good book(wouldn't read it if I didn't think so), but I didn't think that it would be absolutely amazing. I was taken by surprise, though, by how much I got swept up in this story. I feel like one of my favorite parts of the story is that the main character and her five closest friends all start out knowing that they are Enchanters, which is kind of outside the norm, and was a pleasant surprise to me.

Ava Hannigan is an Elemental Enchanter, which is a rare type of Enchanter and one that tends to be more powerful. Ava's element is water, which gives her the ability to breathe underneath it, and the other five members of her coven control the other main elements. Having been a part of this particular group since she was seven, and all the others pairing up she feels that she should stay with Thomas, her long time boyfriend and Fire Elemental Enchanter, even has he continues to be possessive and basically abusive, and even though she is in love with Peter, a human.

I absolutely could not put this down! You watch as Ava slowly but surely becomes more defiant and starts to realize that what she wants is important too, even as she pushes Peter away for his own safety. I don't want to give spoilers, but I have to say that I really loved their relationship. Peter reacted honestly throughout the book. Even though he had feelings for Ava, he didn't let that get in the way when he felt he needed to say something. Not only did I enjoy Ava and Peter, but I feel like the other members of the story were well developed as well. I don't want to name names, but even the characters who were pretty much "bad guys" were so enjoyable to read about, because I feel like even they had many layers, and it didn't all read as black and white, if that makes sense. I would definitely recommend this book for fans of young adult paranormal-type books, especially if you enjoy something a little different. Book two of this series comes out in July and it's already on my Goodreads TBR List. In fact, this author also has a contemporary story that I've promptly "one-clicked." There is just something about the way she writes that kept me turning pages as fast as my could keep up.
Ava a seventeen year old has been dreading the day when she became different. She knew it would happen and when she found out she could breathe underwater she wasn't happy. All she wanted to be was normal but that is impossible she is an enchanter and even more she is a rare enchanter, an elemental. She is in a coven with two other girls and three boys who have been bound together.
Ava seeks to escape her life and finds comfort and normalcy in the company of Peter a human. The problem is she finds more than comfort with Peter but a relationship is forbidden, not to mention she has a boyfriend. Afraid of breaking the coven rules and putting Peter in harms way, she plays a dangerous game and keeps him at arms length. But Peter isn't the only problem she has a evil enchanter who is hunting them and she and her friends must learn to harness their powers. They have to learn to wield their power, stay true to one another and protect their loved ones. When Peter becomes a target, things get complicated and the stakes are raised higher than the teens imagined. A game of life and death, and magic and love begins.

I loved the story. I really enjoyed the concept and the characters. An enchanting story of forbidden love. The characters were each unique and interesting. Ava was a strong yet fragile teen seeking to do what she thought was right. The way she always tried to help Peter was beautiful. You could see her love shining off the pages. Peter was the same way. He was a strong character and a perfect companion to Ava. He treated her like she should have been treated by her 'boyfriend' Thomas. Thomas has got to be one of the worst boyfriends ever. His character was totally selfish and mean. My favorite supporting character was Jeremy. He was understanding and thoughtful.
The story reminded me of Secret Circle. The magic, action and romance kept me entertained the whole way through. Fans of witches and magic or forbidden love will enjoy this intriguing tale.
