After reading one of this author's books, I decided to look for another. Unfortunately, this one just frustrated me. The H is a 40 yo surgeon and professor. The h is about 14 years younger, not good looking, and quite sheltered. The h looks after her mother and they survive on the h's job and her mother's small pension. The h is a companion to a rather nasty woman and when the h's mother has health issues, she ends up leaving the job so she can look after her mother. While her mother is in rehab, she takes a short job standing in for a young woman's nanny and housekeeper. The young woman had a baby a few weeks before and is incapable (totally spoilt) of looking after him plus her husband is away. The h works herself ragged. The H meanwhile is the one who saved the h's mother and operated on her. The main characters' lives keep crossing and eventually after the h's mother dies suddenly, the H offers the h a marriage of convenience. I usually love a good MOC story. There is trouble in the form of another beautiful woman, who knows her husband and who does everything in her power to wreck the marriage.+++Spoilers+++
No details of the MOC are agreed like whether they will have children together etc. It seems like there will be no intimacy but this is never discussed. I appreciate a clean romance but surely there had to have been some sort of reference to the future? After the main characters have their huge falling out and the H says awful things, I really wanted him to apologise or grovel. Only when the h accuses him of being with the other woman later on, do things come to a head. The H never apologises and the story ends very abruptly and it's not a satisfying ending.

This is the kind of fairy tale girls dreamed of several years ago. Now a young girls role models need to be the good taste as in this book. I have 102 paperback Betty Neels books. I enjoy reading them now as much as I did 30 years ago. She is forever my hero.
I have now read every one of the many books the this author wrote. I find them easy read and great to pick up when you need a time out from your busy life. The stores are written in a different time and place. Life was so much nicer and the little things seemed to mean more ,even though times were hard.
Very easy romantic read.
Emma Trent and Dr. Paul Wyatt meet when Emma's mother has a medical emergency and needs immediate surgery. They cross paths a few times after that. When Emma's life is turned upside down by tragedy, Paul offers to marry her, a marriage of convenience. Emma agrees even though she doesn't love Paul. Gradually she begins to fall in love with him, but what about his relationship with Diana, who is far more sophisticated and beautiful than Emma could ever hope to be?
I'm not terribly fond of "marriage of convenience" romance novels, but Betty Neels pulls this off, mainly because she lets us know early on that Paul is in love with Emma and is willing to wait for Emma to fall in love with him. It's nice have some insight into his feelings and it's fun waiting for Emma to realize she has been in love with him all along!
I love reading Betty Neels' books because I know what to expect when I read them a nice, sweet romance. She never disappoints!
Good book to read by one of my favorite authors. She uses romance and knowledge as she writes about nurses and doctors. I find the book very well written and held my interest.
Betty Neels' stories are quite predictable, but sometimes it feels good to read a chaste relationship story. It is also fun to have the setting in England, Holland or elsewhere in Europe.
Another great story by Betty Neels. I just love her stories. So sweet and in a way very undemanding. No terribly intreging plots. Just a simple love story.
